NHA Parents and Guardians,

Most of you have undoubtedly heard by now about the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We did not notify our student body because we got the news near the end of the school day. We ask that you sit down tonight and watch the news with your child(ren) to get the facts related to this very troubling event. Together, you can discuss what happened and you can help them to handle their emotions related to this event.

Young people vary in their reactions, as do adults, to these situations. Please be aware of any distress your son or daughter might be feeling and comfort them to the best of your ability. Most of all, reassure them that the shooter has been identified and will not harm them or anyone else.

On Monday, we will be prepared to talk with students as needed. Please remember the families who have lost loved ones and those who witnessed this traumatic events. Please do not hesitate to call if you think we can be of help or if you have suggestions.
